Brother's Trading Co.

A Korean manufacturer and exporter of neckties and scarves, working out of Ssangmun-dong in Seoul's Dobong-gu district since 1980 — a business built on woven and printed textiles, novelty design, and buyer relationships that reach across the Pacific.

Seoul

Brother's Trading is based in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu — a manufacturing district in the north of Seoul, away from the city's more tourist-facing neighborhoods. This is where the company's design, manufacturing and export operations are centered. A second Brother's location, a shop in Dongdaemun's Pyeonghwa Market, connects the company directly to one of Korea's major fashion and textile marketplaces.

The Business

Brother's Trading designs, manufactures and exports neckties and scarves, producing for both direct retail and buyer-specified programs. By 2001, company materials already described a design library of more than 2,000 necktie designs — and by that same year, Brother's was presenting its products to international audiences through an English-language website at brothers21.com.

Design work is centered in Seoul, with manufacturing primarily based in Korea. Some production runs are placed overseas to Korean specifications and quality standards, a common practice among Korean export manufacturers. Probable

Design

Brother's Trading produces printed silk, printed polyester, woven silk and woven polyester neckties. Alongside conventional patterns, the company has developed novelty designs — including sport and topical themes — and manufactures custom designs to buyer specification. Its ice hockey, soccer and internet/technology-themed novelty ties are documented examples of this work, each labeled "Brother's Trading Co." and "Made in Korea."

Built Around the Buyer

From its early export years, Brother's has approached neckwear as a buyer-driven business — building designs, materials and products around what individual customers and markets required, rather than a single fixed collection. Early company materials recall long nights spent developing and producing requested designs for overseas buyers, a responsiveness the company still describes as central to how it works.

International Markets

Brother's Trading sells into the United States and Europe, an export business that continues today. U.S. customs records document at least two 2007 shipments from Busan — 4 cartons of neckties to Los Angeles and 64 cartons to Florida — confirming the company's export activity into the American market.

Legacy

Across more than four decades, Brother's Trading Co. has built a design library, an export record and a reputation that reach far beyond Ssangmun-dong. The ties, labels, catalogs and shipping records on this site trace that growth and continue to be added to as the company's work continues.

Continuing the Tradition

Brother's Trading Co. remains in operation today, still designing, manufacturing and exporting neckwear from Seoul — continuing a tradition built over more than four decades.
